Canine Club

Nurturing the Bond Between Dogs and Their Owners Since 1969

The Canine Club of Laguna Hills was founded with a passionate purpose: to enhance the lives of dogs and their owners within our community. The club’s inception dates back to July of 1969 when Christine Pensinger rallied dog owners across Leisure World, garnering support to establish a club dedicated to our canine companions. With an impressive petition of 250 signatures, the club was officially formed following approval by the Director of Education and Recreation. The first official meeting took place on August 12, 1969, in Clubhouse 2, marking the beginning of a long-standing tradition of canine care and community.

Our Mission

The Canine Club is committed to:

  • Improving Community Relations: We aim to work with dog owners to ensure their pets are well-behaved and respected members of the community.
  • Promoting Responsible Dog Ownership: The club emphasizes the love, interest, and proper care of dogs through educational initiatives and community guidelines.
  • Setting Community Standards: We help establish and enforce guidelines that ensure a harmonious coexistence between dogs and the Laguna Woods Village community, including adherence to local and state regulations.

Club Guidelines and Regulations

Since January 28, 1971, the Canine Club has advocated for responsible pet ownership, which includes:

  • Ensuring all dogs are leashed in public areas, as per Orange County Ordinance No. 1403.
  • Encouraging owners to be vigilant about cleaning up after their pets.
  • Addressing noise concerns to prevent disturbances in the community.
  • Prohibiting the presence of aggressive dogs that pose a threat to other pets or humans.
  • Requiring all dogs to have a current rabies vaccine and a valid dog license as per city and county laws.

Membership and Club Activities

Annual Membership:

  • Single or Friend of Dog: $15 per year
  • Couple: $20 per year

Membership includes access to monthly meetings, special events, and two major parties each year — a summer gathering and a winter celebration. Members enjoy discounted participation in these events and are kept informed through email notifications or phone messages for those without internet access.

Monthly Meetings and Special Events:

  • Our regular club meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, except during the months of June, July, August, and December.
  • June features our annual Dog Show, July and August are months off, and December hosts our Holiday Luncheon.
  • Meetings take place at Clubhouse 1 in the Art Gallery Room from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., followed by social time with refreshments.

Emergency Veterinary Care:

  • After-hours and urgent care details are provided for nearby facilities to ensure your pet’s health and safety are always a priority.
