Got Trash, Here is How to Sort It

Figuring out where your waste goes doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s a quick and friendly guide to help you sort your trash properly and keep our community clean.

Recyclables

Toss recyclables into the containers with the blue lids. Look for the triangular recycling symbol with numbers from one through seven. Accepted items include:

  • Paper and cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum and tin cans
  • Plastic bottles and jugs
  • Dairy and juice cartons
  • Paperboard, paper bags, phone books, magazines, newspapers, office paper, junk mail, and aluminum foil

Landfill

Throw landfill waste into the black containers with black lids. These items belong in landfill trash bins:

  • Polystyrene, flexible packaging, and plastic wrap
  • Pet waste
  • Soiled paper, ceramics, and broken glass

Special Disposal Required

Some waste needs special handling and shouldn’t go into landfill, recycling, or organics bins. These items include:

  • Construction waste
  • Household cleaners
  • Batteries
  • Automotive products
  • Medicine and sharps
  • Garden chemicals and pesticides
  • Flammable materials
  • Paint products
  • Thermometers
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Electronic waste

Organics

Use the green-lid bins for organic waste, which can include:

  • Human and pet food
  • Food-soiled paper, cardboard, or newspaper
  • Wooden chopsticks
  • Compostable bags (preferred for cleanliness and odor control)

Green Waste

Please do not place garden clippings or green waste in the organics recycling bins. For garden waste pick-up:

  • Email or call Resident Services at [email protected] or 949-597-4600 before noon on Thursday.
  • Provide your address, and your garden waste will be picked up on Friday morning.
  • Place clippings close to the curb on Thursday evening.

For any questions or requests about trash, recycling, and organics, email CR&R at [email protected] or call 949-625-6735. Requests after the Thursday deadline will be handled the following week.
