Renovations to the historic Clubhouse 1, a key community landmark at Laguna Woods Village, began on March 4 and are progressing smoothly, with completion expected in mid-September. This first significant refurbishment since 1964 includes modernizing interiors such as flooring, lighting, and wall coverings, along with replacing doors, windows, and the exterior paint of the 41,000-square-foot facility.
Construction Progress
They are now in the fifth week of this 24-week project. Key milestones so far include:
- Exterior painting and new window installations, set to be completed by May.
- Complete removal and upcoming restoration of restroom and shower fixtures, expected by June.
Important Reminders and Changes
- Safety: Residents are reminded not to enter the construction zones around Clubhouse 1. Security will monitor the area to ensure compliance.
- Recreation Access: Due to increased contractor activity, residents can bring only one guest at a time to the pickleball courts and the Community Fitness Center. Usage time limits may apply during peak hours.
- Parking and Traffic: Limited parking is available at the Community Center. We suggest visiting during non-peak hours for better access.
- Alternative Activities: Badminton and light volleyball are temporarily relocated to the Tennis Center’s courts. Pool 2 remains closed for maintenance until mid-April, but bocce and pétanque are available as usual.
Expanded Fitness Center Hours
To accommodate the community during renovations, the Community Fitness Center and Clubhouse 5 Fitness Center have extended their hours:
- Community Fitness Center: Open Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; weekends from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Clubhouse 5 Fitness Center: Open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Additional Resources
- Transportation Hub: Relocated to the parking lot east of the Village Library at 24266 Calle Aragon.
- Library and History Center: Remain open with parking access near the entrances.
